James Ervin is a Canadian composer, music producer, trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist. Hailing from rural Nova Scotia, Ervin moved to Toronto in 2007 to study jazz at Humber college and to pursue a career in music. Ervin has since made a name for himself across Canada as a multifaceted musician, keen to bring his creative energy to all types of projects. As a composer for film and television, Ervin is passionate about the symbiotic relationship that film and music share with one another, believing that the enhancement of action, suspense, comedy, and drama knows no limit when these two art forms are working hand in hand together. Proficient in a number of brass and stringed instruments, James is known for capturing real in-studio performances to attain a more organic sound.
Composition credits include scoring for Disney, Chevrolet and B.C Tourism, independent films (Cancel The F&^% Internet, Riverlife Productions, Mannish Boy, directed by Ryan Tonelli) and various theatrical shows (One Small Step, Be Kind Rewind, Vampire On Poverty Row NYC Workshop.
James is a proud member of the Screen Composers Guild of Canada and often a featured guest composer for Toronto composers' collective, Spectrum Music.
When not in the studio, James is an in-demand musician who has performed internationally with Juno Award winners, Walk Off The Earth, Juno Award winners, The Tenors, and Juno Award nominee, Matt Anderson.
He has also performed with Grammy Award Nominated, Shawn Mendes.
